💼What teaching on EkGuru is actually like
You keep everything you charge
EkGuru takes no commission and never has. There is no platform fee, no subscription, and no cut of a lesson. A student's booking request goes straight to your own inbox with their name, level, timezone and the slot they want; you reply to them directly and agree payment between yourselves, in whatever way suits you both. We are an introduction, not a middleman.
You set your own price and your own hours
You decide what a lesson costs and how long it runs. The site shows your price in the visitor's own currency, converted at the day's rate, so a student in Germany sees euros and one in the UAE sees dirhams — but the figure you set in dollars is the real one, and it is the only one you are ever held to. Your availability is yours; the site simply displays it in the reader's timezone so they can tell at a glance whether your evenings are their mornings.
What we are honest about
This is a small site run by one person. It does not send a flood of students, and anyone promising you that is selling something. What it does is publish a proper page for you — your own URL, your photo, your subjects, your hours, structured so search engines can read it — and put you in front of people specifically looking for a Hindi teacher rather than a marketplace of forty languages. Some tutors get a steady trickle; some get nothing for weeks. We would rather say that now than have you discover it.
Who we are looking for
- Native or near-native Hindi. Teaching a language you learned as an adult is possible, and it is not what this site is for.
- Some teaching experience, formal or not. Having taught your own cousins counts if you can describe how you did it.
- A quiet room and a stable connection. The single most common complaint about online lessons anywhere is audio, not teaching.
- Willingness to correct people. The reason a student pays for a person rather than an app is to be told when they are wrong. A tutor who says "very good" to everything is worth nothing to them.
What we will not ask you for
No joining fee, no exclusivity, and no phone number. Your mobile is never published on this site — the whole booking flow runs by email precisely so that it is not. If you would rather your email address stayed private too, we can route your bookings through an alias instead; ask when you apply.
Leaving
Write one line and your profile comes down. There is no notice period, no contract and nothing to cancel. If a student has already booked, we ask that you honour or refund that lesson, which is courtesy rather than a rule we could enforce.
How long the reply takes
Usually within a day, occasionally two. Every application is read by a person — the same person who runs the site — so a slow reply means it is being read properly rather than sitting in a queue. If four days pass with nothing, write again; email does go missing.
