The first twenty numbers with pronunciation, plus how to ask and say prices.
1 to 10
The first ten numbers are the foundation: uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez. Notice uno shortens to un before a masculine noun: un libro (one book).
11 to 15
once, doce, trece, catorce, quince. These five are single words you simply memorise — there is no pattern to lean on.
16 to 20
From 16 the pattern appears: dieciséis (16, literally "ten and six"), diecisiete (17), dieciocho (18), diecinueve (19), veinte (20).
Asking and saying prices
¿Cuánto cuesta? means "how much does it cost?" (one thing); ¿Cuánto cuestan? for several. The answer is just the number: Diez euros (ten euros). In most of Latin America you will also hear ¿Cuánto es?.
Recall check
Cover the number table. Say 1–10 aloud, then write 11–20 from memory. Check that dieciséis keeps its accent and that uno shortens to un before a masculine noun. Finish by saying a price with diez euros.
