How do you type in Hindi on a phone or computer?

On a phone, add the Hindi keyboard in your settings and use the transliteration mode: type "namaste" and it offers नमस्ते. On Windows, add Hindi under Language settings and use the Hindi Phonetic layout. On Mac it is Input Sources → Devanagari – QWERTY. Transliteration is what almost everyone uses — you never have to learn a new key layout.

Android

Settings → System → Languages & input → Virtual keyboard → Gboard → Languages → add Hindi (Latin) for transliteration, or Hindi for the native layout.

Hindi (Latin) is the one you want. You type kaise ho and it offers कैसे हो.

iPhone

Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Hindi (Transliteration).

Switch with the globe key.

Windows

Settings → Time & Language → Language → Add a language → हिन्दी. Install it, then pick Hindi Phonetic as the keyboard. Switch with Windows + Space.

Mac

System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → + → Hindi → Devanagari – QWERTY.

Voice is often faster

Every one of these has a microphone. Speaking Hindi into it is quicker than typing and doubles as pronunciation practice — if the phone types what you meant, you said it clearly enough.
