Day 26 — Likes and wants

The idea

मुझे पसंद है does not mean 'I like'. It means 'to me it is pleasing' — the thing is the subject and you are the recipient. Hindi does this with a whole family of experiences: hunger, thirst, liking, knowing.

Today's task

Do this, not just read it

Say five things you like, using the structure correctly. Resist making yourself the subject.

Words for today

I am happyमैं ख़ुश हूँmain khush hoon
I am tiredमैं थक गया हूँmain thak gaya hoon

The mistake to avoid

Watch for this

मैं पसंद करता हूँ, which exists but means something closer to 'I choose'. It is not how you say you like tea.

Where this sits in the thirty days

This is day 4 of 8 in the past tense and real speech phase (days 23–30), whose job is the two things self-study reliably gets wrong. It assumes you have done day 25. It sits in the middle of the phase, which is where most of the actual learning happens and where most people quietly stop. Day 27 continues from here.

How long today should take

About 23 to 33 minutes if you do the task properly rather than reading past it. The speaking part is not optional decoration — saying it aloud badly is worth more than reading it correctly, because your mouth learns nothing from your eyes. Missing a day is not a reason to stop — the sequence matters, the calendar does not.

A note on the Hindi spellings

Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta. If something here looks off to you, trust a native speaker over this page and please tell us so it gets fixed — it takes a moment and a real person reads it. Romanised spellings are a guide to the sound, not a standard: there is no single official way to write Hindi in Latin letters.

You are past the point where reading is enough

Days 21 to 30 cover the past tense, ने and real-speed listening. Those three are the ones that self-study reliably gets wrong, because you cannot hear your own errors. An hour a week is enough to stop them setting.
