यार, अच्छा, बस and the small words that carry a conversation.
A handful of small words do a disproportionate amount of work in spoken Hindi, and none of them appears in a beginner course.
अच्छा is the champion. It means good, okay, I see, really?, is that so, and — with the right tone — open disbelief. Learners use it as 'good' and miss three quarters of what it is doing.
यार is roughly 'mate' or 'dude', used between friends of any gender, and it softens or intensifies depending on placement. Wrong with a stranger, an elder or a boss.
बस means enough, that's it, stop. One syllable, extremely useful at a table.
ठीक है is fine, alright, agreed — the default way to close anything.
अरे is an attention-getter that ranges from affectionate to exasperated.
चलो means let's go, and also 'fine, whatever, moving on'.
मतलब literally means 'meaning' and functions as 'I mean' or 'so basically', filling the space English fills with 'like'.
A warning worth taking seriously: slang is the fastest way to sound natural and the fastest way to sound wrong. Register errors are more noticeable than grammar errors, and a learner who swears fluently and cannot conjugate is a specific and unfortunate impression. Listen for who says what to whom before you use any of it.
