Khmer contains one of the largest Sanskrit and Pali vocabulary layers of any language outside South Asia, which means a Cambodian learner already owns a great deal of formal Hindi without knowing it. Words for teacher, language, country, religion, victory, and most abstract and administrative vocabulary trace to the same Sanskrit roots Hindi draws on, changed in pronunciation but recognisable once pointed out. Khmer script is itself descended from a South Indian Brahmi script, so Devanagari's logic — consonants carrying an inherent vowel, modified by marks above, below and beside — is the logic you already read in every day. What is genuinely new is Hindi's grammatical gender and its case-marking postpositions.

Two honest caveats. That figure uses standard time and ignores daylight saving, which moves it by an hour for part of the year in many countries; and some countries span several zones. Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta. If something here looks off to you, trust a native speaker over this page and please tell us so it gets fixed — it takes a moment and a real person reads it. Romanised spellings are a guide to the sound, not a standard: there is no single official way to write Hindi in Latin letters.
