The Marathi sounds learners get wrong, and the path from your first letter to reading real words. The SAME script as Hindi — if you read Hindi, you can sound out Marathi on day one. Only two surprises wait: ळ (retroflex L, unknown in Hindi) and a few spelling habits of its own.

How to practise

  1. Read the tables aloud twice a day for a week — recognition before recall.
  2. Then type the words: roman prompt → Devanagari (Balbodh).
  3. Finally read the numbers and core words without the roman column.

The letters that actually need work

Every alphabet has a few letters that learners hear as "the same". They are not the same, and they are the ones worth drilling deliberately.

Read these ten words out loud

Reading practice works better with real words than with letter drills. These are ten high-value words from the course — read the Marathi column first, then check the pronunciation column underneath.

Writing: hand before keyboard

Write each new letter by hand five times. Handwriting forces you to notice the strokes and the joins, which typing lets you skip. Once you can write it, the typing trainer turns that knowledge into speed.

A realistic goal for the first fortnight is not beauty, it is legibility to yourself. Handwriting in Marathi improves the same way it does in English: slowly, and by doing it in short bursts often.

When you get stuck. If a letter refuses to stick, it is almost always because you are learning it in isolation. Attach it to a word you already know from the numbers or greetings tables, and learn the pair.

The first fortnight, day by day

  1. Days 1–5. Two vowels a day, written by hand five times each and read aloud. No vocabulary yet.
  2. Days 6–10. Two consonants a day the same way. By now you should recognise the vowels on sight.
  3. Days 11–12. Read the numbers table without the roman column. Slow is fine — accurate is the goal.
  4. Day 13. Read the ten words above and check yourself against the pronunciation column.
  5. Day 14. Type ten words in the practice typing trainer, then read the greetings table aloud unaided.

Fourteen short sessions is genuinely enough to read slowly, which is all the beginner stage asks. Everything after that is speed, and speed comes from reading things you already understand.
