EkGuruHindi questions

How do you say what is your name in Hindi?

आपका नाम क्या है? (aapka naam kya hai?) politely, or तुम्हारा नाम क्या है? (tumhara naam kya hai?) to a friend or a child.

Word by word

HindiMeans
आपका aapkayour (polite)
नाम naamname
क्या kyawhat
है haiis

Literally that is "your name what is" — the verb lands at the end, which is the biggest structural difference between Hindi and English. Why the verb goes last.

Answering

मेरा नाम ___ है (mera naam ___ hai). Not just your name on its own — that sounds like an announcement rather than a reply.

Curious what your name looks like in Hindi?

Names are transliterated, not translated: you write the same sounds in Devanagari. Our free tool does it instantly and explains why each letter is what it is.

Practise this with a teacher

Reading an answer is one thing; being corrected while you say it is another. EkGuru tutors teach one to one from $6 a lesson, and most offer a trial.
