Recall drills — 126 more questions from the A2 words
These 126 drills are generated from the Italian A2 vocabulary list — the words of “Getting around” through “Shopping and weather”, in both directions: recognition (word → meaning) and production (meaning → word). They re-ask what the course data already contains; no answer here was written by a machine, and a generated drill is practice, never a lesson.

Italian A2 beyond the drills — culture, reading, listening, idioms
These sections are written for Italian A2 specifically. The reading text is EkGuru's own; the culture note cites where its facts come from; the idioms and the mistakes list are the ones this level actually trips over.
Culture note
Italian meals keep a timetable: colazione standing at the bar, pranzo at one, aperitivo around seven and cena at nine. The bar is cheaper standing than seated, « un caffè » is an espresso, and the receipt (lo scontrino) is asked for on the way out, not on the way in.

Reading — read this aloud, slowly
Al ristorante, il cameriere porta il menù. Sofia prende un primo e un secondo, Marco solo un primo e un dolce. « Da bere? — Una bottiglia d'acqua, per favore. » Il coperto è a pagamento, il pane no. Alla fine Marco chiede il conto, divide e lascia un piccolo resto, perché il servizio è incluso.
What it says: At the restaurant the waiter brings the menu. Sofia takes a first course and a main, Marco only a first course and a dessert. 'To drink? — A bottle of water, please.' The cover charge is paid, the bread is not. In the end Marco asks for the bill, splits it and leaves a small remainder, because service is included.

Marco: Che cosa prendi?
Sofia: Vorrei il menù del giorno.
Marco: E da bere?
Sofia: Una bottiglia d'acqua. Il coperto è incluso?
What it says: Marco: What are you having? Sofia: I would like the menu of the day. Marco: And to drink? Sofia: A bottle of water. Is the cover charge included?
10 idioms and fixed phrases
| Idiom | Word for word | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Vorrei | I would want | I would like (polite ordering) |
| Il menù del giorno | the menu of the day | the set menu |
| Il conto | the account | the bill |
| Lo scontrino | the receipt | the receipt, asked for |
| Il resto | the remainder | the change, or a small tip |
| Il coperto | the cover | cover charge |
| Da bere | to drink | drinks |
| Quanto viene? | how much does it come to? | how much is it in total? |
| Da portare via | to carry away | takeaway |
| Buon appetito | good appetite | enjoy your meal |
The 3 mistakes this level makes
- Voglio un caffè. → Vorrei un caffè. Voglio is blunt; vorrei is the standard polite order.
- Il menù è a pagamento. → Il coperto è a pagamento. menu in Italian is the list of dishes; the charge is the coperto.
- Prendo il conto. → Chiedo il conto. You ask for the bill: chiedere il conto.
Your task
Order a two-course meal out loud Write a nine-line restaurant scene: greet, ask for the menù, order a primo and a secondo with vorrei, order drinks, ask what the coperto is, ask for the bill, ask whether service is included, and leave. Then rewrite the same scene as you would say it to a friend at home (tu, prendo) and compare the two registers.
After A2: the A2+ checkpoint
A2+ is not a certificate — it is the half-step between Italian A2 and the next level, and it is on this site’s ladder because language schools use it. You are at A2+ when you can keep a conversation going, tell a short story. Get there by working the recall drills above and the review deck until nothing on this page surprises you, then open the B1 pages.
