Because Urdu and Hindi are the same spoken language with different scripts and different formal vocabularies, an Arabic-literate learner here can reach conversational ability while choosing whether to take on Devanagari at all. Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta.
