The whole Marathi A2 level as one readable page: 3 units, 9 lessons, 63 words, 289 questions with every answer shown, a worksheet and a 10-item level test. Nothing here is behind JavaScript, and nothing needs an account.

Who this level is for. A2 is one of the six CEFR levels and the A2 rung on this site’s ladder: the learner in the picture is a teenager, because on this site age is the rung — the same learner grows up the ladder as the language grows. By the end of it you can talk about your day, shop, order food.
A teenager learning Marathi at level A2 (teen)
A2 — on the ladder this level is a teenager, age 13: by the end of it the learner can talk about your day, shop, order food. The same figure is on the course hub and in how the eleven rungs work.

What you can do when A2 is finished

 • Build level-appropriate comprehension and production.
 • Use Devanagari with romanisation and accurate English meaning.
 • Adapt Marathi to age, relationship, setting, and register.

Marathi A2 beyond the drills — culture, reading, listening, idioms

These sections are written for Marathi A2 specifically. The reading text is EkGuru's own; the culture note cites where its facts come from; the idioms and the mistakes list are the ones this level actually trips over.

Culture note

A Maharashtrian kitchen changes with the ground under it: bhakri of jowar or bajri with a chutney in the Deccan, rice and coconut along the Konkan coast, peanuts and dry coconut in Vidarbha. Bhaji mandai mornings, misal for breakfast and ukdiche modak at Ganesh Chaturthi are the parts everyone knows. Tea, चहा, is the great leveller — a cutting is sold on every corner, and the invitation चहा घेऊ या closes more deals than a contract does.

Reading — read this aloud, slowly

What it says: This morning I went to the vegetable market. The vegetable seller showed me tomatoes and brinjal. The price seemed high, so I bargained a little and in the end took two kilos. From the shop behind I got hot misal. At the next shop I found tea. On the way home I bought a coconut and green chillies. In the evening my mother cooked the vegetables and we all ate together. When I looked at the accounts, fifteen rupees were saved.

Listening — one voice, one text

Use the speaker button to hear this text with a browser voice tagged mr-IN; playback starts only after a click. If no matching voice is installed, read it aloud yourself — the rhythm is the point.

स्नेहा: काका, भाजी किती रुपये किलो आहे?
विक्रेता: तीस रुपये किलो, मॅडम. ताजी आहे.
स्नेहा: थोडे कमी करा. पंचवीसला द्या.
विक्रेता: ठीक आहे, दोन किलो घ्या म्हणजे बरोबर होईल.
स्नेहा: चला, द्या. आणि मिरचीचे काय दर आहेत?

What it says: Sneha: Uncle, how much is the vegetable per kilo? Seller: Thirty rupees a kilo, madam. It is fresh. Sneha: Make it a little less. Give it at twenty-five. Seller: All right, take two kilos and it works out. Sneha: Fine, give it. And what is the price of the chillies?

10 idioms and fixed phrases

The 3 mistakes this level makes

 • काल मी मुंबईत गेलो. → काल मी मुंबईला गेलो. Going to a city takes -ला; being in it takes -त. मुंबईला गेलो, मुंबईत राहिलो.
 • माझ्याजवळ पैसे आहे. → माझ्याजवळ पैसे आहेत. पैसे is plural, so it takes आहेत; आहे would make it one single rupee.
 • शंभर रुपये लागतो. → शंभर रुपये लागतात. रुपये counted as a sum takes a plural verb: रुपये लागतात, रुपये पडतात.

Your task

Shop for vegetables in Marathi Write a short market dialogue of six lines between a customer and a seller: ask the price per kilo, bargain once with कमी करा, settle on two kilos, and ask the price of one more thing. Then write down the account in one sentence with रुपये लागतात.
