Telugu A2 — A2 Elementary Telugu

Draft: not yet reviewed by a native speaker. Existing availability and indexing are preserved by owner instruction; that is not an editorial approval. Suggest a correction.

The whole Telugu A2 level as one readable page: 3 units, 9 lessons, 63 words, 289 questions with every answer shown, a worksheet and a 10-item level test. Nothing here is behind JavaScript, and nothing needs an account.

Who this level is for. A2 is one of the six CEFR levels and the A2 rung on this site’s ladder: the learner in the picture is a teenager, because on this site age is the rung — the same learner grows up the ladder as the language grows. By the end of it you can talk about your day, shop, order food.
A teenager learning Telugu at level A2 (teen)
A2 — on the ladder this level is a teenager, age 13: by the end of it the learner can talk about your day, shop, order food. The same figure is on the course hub and in how the eleven rungs work.

What you can do when A2 is finished

  • Build level-appropriate comprehension and production.
  • Use Telugu script with romanisation and accurate English meaning.
  • Adapt language to age, relationship, context, and register.

Handle routine situations with polite requests, time reference, linked actions, and practical questions. Telugu keeps the finite verb near the end; case, tense, respect, and clause links are commonly carried by suffixes.

Telugu A2 beyond the drills — culture, reading, listening, idioms

These sections are written for Telugu A2 specifically. The reading text is EkGuru's own; the culture note cites where its facts come from; the idioms and the mistakes list are the ones this level actually trips over.

Culture note

Ugadi marks a new year for many Telugu-speaking families. The Government of India's festival description notes the custom of preparing Ugadi pachadi, a mixture associated with six tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, tangy and spicy. Households may vary the ingredients and proportions; the useful language lesson is to name a taste, describe a recipe and ask what someone prefers without assuming every family celebrates in exactly the same way.

Reading — read this aloud, slowly

What it says: The work began at our home on the day before Ugadi. Mother soaked the tamarind; I cut the raw mango into small pieces. Father brought jaggery, salt and chilli. Grandmother mixed each ingredient and tasted it. Nobody liked exactly the same taste, so in the end we each added a little. We shared the pachadi before the meal.

What it says: Rekha: What else should we add to the pachadi? Kiran: Add a little jaggery; I like it sweeter. Rekha: I like sourness. Is the tamarind enough? Kiran: Yes, add a little first and taste it.

The 3 mistakes this level makes

  • నేను పచ్చడి కావాలి. → నాకు పచ్చడి కావాలి. కావాలి normally frames the person who wants something with the dative నాకు.
  • అమ్మ మామిడికాయ కోశారు. → అమ్మ మామిడికాయను కోశారు. The definite object is marked with -ను here: మామిడికాయను.
  • మీరు కలుపు. → మీరు కలపండి. A respectful request to మీరు uses the plural imperative కలపండి.
