Telugu B1 — B1 Intermediate Telugu

Draft: not yet reviewed by a native speaker. Existing availability and indexing are preserved by owner instruction; that is not an editorial approval. Suggest a correction.

The whole Telugu B1 level as one readable page: 3 units, 9 lessons, 63 words, 289 questions with every answer shown, a worksheet and a 10-item level test. Nothing here is behind JavaScript, and nothing needs an account.

Who this level is for. B1 is one of the six CEFR levels and the B1 rung on this site’s ladder: the learner in the picture is a young adult, because on this site age is the rung — the same learner grows up the ladder as the language grows. By the end of it you can explain a problem, write a message, follow a podcast.
A young adult learning Telugu at level B1 (youth)
B1 — on the ladder this level is a young adult, age 20: by the end of it the learner can explain a problem, write a message, follow a podcast. The same figure is on the course hub and in how the eleven rungs work.

What you can do when B1 is finished

  • Build level-appropriate comprehension and production.
  • Use Telugu script with romanisation and accurate English meaning.
  • Adapt language to age, relationship, context, and register.

Telugu B1 beyond the drills — culture, reading, listening, idioms

These sections are written for Telugu B1 specifically. The reading text is EkGuru's own; the culture note cites where its facts come from; the idioms and the mistakes list are the ones this level actually trips over.

Culture note

Bathukamma is a floral festival strongly associated with Telangana. The state's official culture page describes flower stacks, group songs and gatherings, with the celebration culminating in immersion of the floral arrangements in nearby tanks or lakes. Seasonal flowers and local practice matter, so the lesson treats Bathukamma as a living regional tradition rather than a single recipe or a performance that every Telugu-speaking household observes in the same way.

Reading — read this aloud, slowly

What it says: Everyone on our street prepared together for the Bathukamma gathering. Some brought flowers; others prepared a place to sit in a circle. When the elders started a song, children joined in too. After the programme, they took the flowers to the tank. The organisers reminded everyone to keep the waterside clean.

What it says: Latha: Have the flower baskets arrived? Sudha: They have, but the song list is not ready yet. Latha: I will speak with the elders and write down the order. Sudha: Good. We should also say that rubbish must not be left near the water.

The 3 mistakes this level makes

  • వాళ్లు పూలు నీటిలో వేసారు. → వాళ్లు పూలను నీటిలో వేశారు. Mark the definite object with -ను, and use the written past form వేశారు.
  • పాట మొదలైనప్పుడు పిల్లలు కూడా పాడారు. → పాట మొదలుపెట్టినప్పుడు పిల్లలు కూడా పాడారు. మొదలైనప్పుడు means when it began; this sentence needs the agentive 'when they started' form.
  • అందరూ కలిసి ఏర్పాట్లు చేసింది. → అందరూ కలిసి ఏర్పాట్లు చేశారు. The human plural subject అందరూ takes plural agreement చేశారు.

Your task

సమాజ వేడుకకు బాధ్యతల పంచకం Write a short note for a neighbourhood group: describe two tasks already completed, assign two tasks still to do, and give a reason to protect the waterfront. Use కలిసి, తరువాత, ఎందుకంటే and ఒకవేళ at least once. Finish with one sentence that invites people to help without assuming everyone celebrates in the same way.
