Bengali and Hindi are close relatives, and the scripts share an ancestor — the way a Bengali word is built from consonant and vowel sign is the way a Hindi one is. Vocabulary overlap is heavy, especially in formal registers. The reliable stumbling block is pronunciation: the Bengali habit of realising 'a' as 'o' carries straight over, and it marks you instantly. A tutor who speaks both fixes it in weeks; self-study rarely does.

Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta. If something here looks off to you, trust a native speaker over this page and please tell us so it gets fixed — it takes a moment and a real person reads it. Romanised spellings are a guide to the sound, not a standard: there is no single official way to write Hindi in Latin letters.
