Mongolia's relationship with Indian thought runs through Tibetan Buddhism, which carried Sanskrit vocabulary into Mongolian along with the religion — a layer of formal and philosophical words with recognisable Indian roots. The grammatical advantage is larger and more immediately useful. Mongolian is verb-final and uses postpositions, which means Hindi's sentence order is already yours and ने, को, में and से are doing the job your own case endings do. There is nothing to unlearn about word order, which removes the obstacle that costs European learners their first six months. Most Mongolian speakers also read Cyrillic, so Devanagari is a second alphabet rather than a first.

Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta. Romanised spellings are a guide to the sound, not a standard: there is no single official way to write Hindi in Latin letters.
