Spanish C2 — Spanish C2 Advanced Mastery

Draft: not yet reviewed by a native speaker. Existing availability and indexing are preserved by owner instruction; that is not an editorial approval. Suggest a correction.

The whole Spanish C2 level as one readable page: 3 units, 9 lessons, 63 words, 289 questions with every answer shown, a worksheet and a 10-item level test. Nothing here is behind JavaScript, and nothing needs an account.

Who this level is for. C2 is one of the six CEFR levels and the C2 rung on this site’s ladder: the learner in the picture is an elder, because on this site age is the rung — the same learner grows up the ladder as the language grows. By the end of it you can poetry, law, humour, and the mistake that sounds foreign.
An elder learning Spanish at level C2 (elder)
C2 — on the ladder this level is an elder, age 78: by the end of it the learner can poetry, law, humour, and the mistake that sounds foreign. The same figure is on the course hub and in how the eleven rungs work.

What you can do when C2 is finished

 • Control advanced discourse and register.
 • Synthesize and mediate complex information.
 • Produce precise professional and academic language.

Lo que el texto presupone: presuposición e implicatura

El pronóstico calibrado: la incertidumbre con números

Expert Spanish states its uncertainty on a scale: CONFIRMADO, PROBABLE, POSIBLE, NO DESCARTABLE, POCO PROBABLE — and names the horizon: A CORTO PLAZO, HASTA 2030. The forecast is only as good as the words around it.

WordSay itMeaning
confirmadokohn-feer-MAH-dohconfirmed
probableproh-BAH-blehprobable
no descartablenoh des-kar-TAH-blehcannot be ruled out
a corto plazoah KOR-toh PLAH-sohin the short term
el pronósticoel proh-NOS-tee-kohforecast
Uncertainty scale

A corto plazo, una subida es probable; a largo plazo es posible, y una bajada no es descartable. Stating the horizon and the band makes a forecast falsifiable instead of rhetorical.

confirmado > probable > posible > no descartable > poco probable
WordSay itMeaning
A corto plazo, una subida es probable.ah KOR-toh PLAH-soh, OO-nah soo-BEE-dah es proh-BAH-bleh.In the short term a rise is probable.
Una bajada no es descartable.OO-nah bah-HAH-dah noh es des-kar-TAH-bleh.A decline cannot be ruled out.
El pronóstico vale hasta 2030.el proh-NOS-tee-koh BAH-leh AHS-tah dohs MEE-l treh-een-tah.The forecast holds until 2030.
Watch out:
 • Va a subir. → A corto plazo es probable que suba. A bare future assertion hides the horizon and the band.
 • Quizá posible. → Posible, pero poco probable. Two hedges cancel; the scale takes one position.

Dialogue. Read it aloud twice — once for each speaker.

Spanish C2 beyond the drills — culture, reading, listening, idioms

These sections are written for Spanish C2 specifically. The reading text is EkGuru's own; the culture note cites where its facts come from; the idioms and the mistakes list are the ones this level actually trips over.

Culture note

Spanish has a literature of quotation and reversal: Cervantes parodied the books of chivalry, Lorca borrowed the romance and changed its voice, and the press quotes a phrase in order to turn it. The practical effect at C2 is that allusion is normal: readers are expected to hear the borrowed line, which is why this level drills irony, parallelism and the deliberate clash of registers rather than more word lists.

Source (named, not linked): en.wikipedia.org, the article “Spanish literature”.

Reading — read this aloud, slowly

Un artículo empieza: «En un lugar de la Mancha no pasa nada — y eso es la noticia.» El autor cita a Cervantes para contradecirlo. Quien no oye la alusión lee solo una afirmación; quien la oye lee un movimiento: primero la fórmula prestada, luego su vuelta, luego la razón. Ese movimiento es el argumento, y sin él la cita solo adorna.

What it says: An article begins: 'In a place in La Mancha nothing happens — and that is the news.' The author quotes Cervantes in order to contradict him. Whoever does not hear the allusion reads only a claim; whoever hears it reads a movement: first the borrowed formula, then its turn, then the reason. That movement is the argument, and without it the quotation merely decorates.

Listening — one voice, one text

Use the speaker button to hear this text with a browser voice tagged es-ES; playback starts only after a click. If no matching voice is installed, read it aloud yourself — the rhythm is the point.

Entrevistadora: Su texto cita el Quijote y lo contradice.
Autor: Sí, y no es un riesgo si el lector lo conoce.
Entrevistadora: ¿Y si no lo conoce?
Autor: Entonces le queda la idea, que también funciona sola.

What it says: Interviewer: Your text quotes Don Quixote and contradicts it. Author: Yes, and it is not a risk if the reader knows it. Interviewer: And if they don't? Author: Then the idea remains, which also works on its own.

The 3 mistakes this level makes

 • En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme, no pasa nada. → «En un lugar de la Mancha no pasa nada», parafraseando a Cervantes. An unmarked quotation reads as the author's own prose; a marked one is an allusion.
 • Es un riesgo si el lector conoce o no lo conoce. → No es un riesgo si el lector lo conoce. One condition per clause; the doubled alternative muddies the claim.
 • La cita adorna y también prueba. → La cita adorna; la prueba es otra cosa. A quotation illustrates; it never proves.

Your task

Quote, reverse, justify Write one Spanish paragraph of C2 argument in three moves: quote a proverb or a literary line, reverse it, and justify the reversal with a case the original misses. Then cut every adjective that only adds emphasis and check whether the reversal still stands. If it does, the paragraph was an argument; if not, it was decoration.
