Saint Lucia received Indian indentured labourers in the nineteenth century, and descendants of that migration are part of the island's population today, though the language itself was largely lost across the generations. A Saint Lucian learner with that heritage is usually recovering something rather than starting something, which comes with a particular frustration worth naming: the feeling that you ought to already know it.
