Timor-Leste's learners typically work across Tetum, Portuguese, Indonesian and English, and that habitual multilingualism matters more than any single advantage — it removes the question of whether a new language is possible. Two specific gifts: Portuguese nasal vowels are exactly what Hindi's anusvara is, and Indonesian carries a Sanskrit vocabulary layer that overlaps with Hindi's, so bahasa, guru, dunia, kepala and cuba have recognisable Hindi counterparts. Tetum itself borrowed heavily from Portuguese and Malay, compounding both effects. The genuinely new material is Devanagari, grammatical gender, and the retroflex consonant series.

Two honest caveats. That figure uses standard time and ignores daylight saving, which moves it by an hour for part of the year in many countries; and some countries span several zones. Devanagari is easy to get slightly wrong when it is typed by hand — a missing matra, the wrong nukta.
