Stations, directions, tickets and toilets — travel Telugu that gets you there.

Destinations unlock with one pattern: బస్ స్టాండ్ (bus stand), రైల్వే స్టేషన్ (railway station), విమానాశ్రయం (airport), హోటల్ (hotel). Add ఎక్కడ? (where?) and you can find every transport hub in the states — స్టేషన్ ఎక్కడ? is the traveller's master key.

Directions come in threes: ఎడమ (left), కుడి (right), నేరుగా (straight ahead) — plus దగ్గర (nearby) and దూరం (far). ఎడమ వైపు (on the left side), నేరుగా వెళ్లండి (go straight) — follow the words, watch the inevitable hand gestures, arrive smiling.

Tickets and seats run the journey: టికెట్ (ticket), ఒక టికెట్ (one ticket), ఎంత? (how much?), సీటు (seatu — seat). బస్సు ఎప్పుడు వస్తుంది? (when does the bus come?) — asked at every stand, answered with cheerful vagueness. Patience is also vocabulary.

Emergencies and essentials close the kit: సహాయం (help), టాయిలెట్ ఎక్కడ? (where is the toilet?), నీళ్లు (water), ఆసుపత్రి (hospital). Hope never to need నాకు సహాయం చేయండి (please help) — but carry it always, like travel insurance in a single word.

Language, culture, and common traps

A note on స్టేషన్. స్టేషన్ (station) anchors every journey: బస్ స్టాండ్ (bus stand), రైల్వే స్టేషన్ (railway station), విమానాశ్రయం (airport). Learn the pattern once — vehicle + స్టేషన్ — and every signboard in Telugu states reads itself.

Practice: recall, then use

Use this quick recall drill for Travel phrases. Hide the script and romanisation columns; say the Telugu form for each cue before revealing its row, then check spelling and sound. The phrase-table speaker buttons provide a model when a matching browser voice is available.

Questions learners ask

How do I ask where things are?

...ఎక్కడ? (...ekkada — where is...?) plus a pointing finger. బస్ స్టాండ్ ఎక్కడ? రైల్వే స్టేషన్ ఎక్కడ? One pattern, every destination in Telugu states.

Left, right, straight?

ఎడమ (left), కుడి (right), నేరుగా (straight) — then దగ్గర (near) and దూరం (far). Telugu directions come with generous hand-waving; watch the hands as well as the words.

How do I find a toilet?

టాయిలెట్ ఎక్కడ? (where is the toilet?) — say it clearly, without embarrassment. Every bus stand, station and restaurant understands instantly.
