Tamil slang
செம, மச்சான், வேற லெவல் — street Tamil that fun runs on.

Praise slang opens doors: செம (awesome), சூப்பர் (super), வேற லெவல் (next level), அட்டகாசம் (fantastic), கலக்கிட்டே (you rocked it). Food, films, friends' outfits — praise everything loudly. Tamils praise generously; learners should too.
Friendship words bond crews: மச்சான் (dude), மச்சி (buddy) — friends-only, always warm. டேய் மச்சான் (hey dude) starts a thousand conversations daily. Never aim them upward at elders; sideways at friends, fire freely.
Reaction words colour stories: ஐயையோ (oh no!), அடடா (wow/oh!), கதை விடாதே (stop making things up!). Tamil storytelling runs on reactions — gasp, laugh, disbelieve theatrically. Flat faces kill stories; big reactions feed them.
Playful edges season everything: போடா (get lost — playful among friends, rude otherwise), காண்டு (frustration), சும்மா (just because). Learn the edges, respect the edges: slang's power is knowing exactly where fun ends.

Practice: recall, then use
Use this quick recall drill for Tamil slang. Hide the script and romanisation columns; say the Tamil form for each cue before revealing its row, then check spelling and sound. The phrase-table speaker buttons provide a model when a matching browser voice is available.
- Super / great
- Fantastic
- Stop making things up
Transfer practice. Before repeating a slang expression, identify who said it, to whom, and in what mood. Practise recognising the phrase before trying it yourself. Slang can sound friendly in one group and rude in another; avoid using it with elders, customers, or strangers until a trusted speaker confirms the setting. Start from சூப்பர் (super) and decide whether it fits the situation before using it elsewhere.
Context check. For Tamil slang, “Stop making things up” belongs to a particular setting. A common mistake is to treat an English gloss as universal; read the language-specific note above and ask a fluent speaker when local usage differs.

Questions learners ask
செம (sema — awesome) and சூப்பர் (super) — positive, universal, safe. Sprinkle them on food, films and friends; instant insider status.
மச்சான் (dude/bro) and மச்சி (buddy) — for friends only, never elders or strangers. Friendship slang misused offends; rightly used, it bonds instantly.
சும்மா (just like that / for fun) — சும்மா சொன்னேன் (just kidding), சும்மா வந்தேன் (just dropped by). The most Tamil word in existence: purposeless joy, declared proudly.
